Cub Social 101

cub social

Planning the perfect CUB Social every single time can be simple if you follow these 4 steps.

  1. Pick an activity
  2. Pick a location
  3. Invite CUBpanions (parents and kids)
  4. Don’t forget the snacks

Picking an activity doesn’t require over-thinking. Simply identify what your CUB likes to do!

Do they enjoy singing, dancing, or swimming? Host a sing-a-long social and turn on their favorite movie tunes. Dress up 80’s style and have a rockin’ dance party. Meet at the pool for a “Day at the Beach”.

Do they like playing with hair, doing makeup, or watching you do yoga? Host a mother-daughter blow out at your favorite blow dry bar. Do mommy/daughter makeovers and take pics. Ask a local yoga studio if you can bring a group of friends for a mommy and me yoga class and let your friends know the price to join.

Is it National Chocolate Cake Day, Groundhog Day, or Friendship Day? Get inspired and create an activity they will love. Bake a cake for National Cake Day, learn about shadows by making shadow puppets for Groundhog Day, and make friendship bracelets out of paper for Friendship Day.

Picking a location should be based on 3 factors: group size, weather/season, and area of town. The last thing you need is 12 toddlers running around your house on a rainy day. Just picture the MUD everywhere! Area of town is just a courtesy to your friends. No one wants to sit in 5 o’clock traffic going into the city on a Friday with a fussy toddler.

Large group? Meet at the park for an outdoor dance party. Medium group? Grab your friends and their CUBs to meet at your favorite Mexican restaurant for a father and son fiesta. Small Group? Invite them over to enjoy a Give a Mouse a Cookie social (or book of choice social) and bake cookies and read the book.

Inviting CUBpanions (parents & kids) shouldn’t be a challenge. Focus on 3 factors: age of kid, similar interests, and area of town. Think of friends that would enjoy joining you on the activity you are planning for yourself and child. Finding friends your CUB’s age/skill level will help them to get the most fun out of the social.

We all know you probably have a PFF (parent friend forever), but try expanding your social circle for yourself and for your CUB. Ask your friends if they have friends with kids your CUBs age. Finding friends that live in your same area of town is great for last minute socials.

Snacks are SO important! No one wants HANGRY CUBs, so whatever you do, don’t forget the snacks. Trail mixes are great and they usually have something in there for all taste buds. Start with pretzels, cheddar crackers, or popcorn, add your favorite cereal (chex, cheerios, graham cereal) , add a dried fruit of choice (raisins, cranberries, golden raisins, dried blueberries, banana chips, coconut flakes), and put a few pieces of something decadent (yogurt chips, chocolate chips, or M&M’s).

You can always make the trail mix sound extra special by naming it after the activity you pick for your social. Think along the lines of a dance party social- “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun trail mix” or a Father & Son yoga class social – “Namaste trail mix”.
